THE CHOUEKE FAMILY IS STRONGLY OPPOSED TO THE HARVESTING OF IVORY. ALL THE IVORY ON DISPLAY IS ANTIQUE AND WAS COLLECTED BEFORE THE GENERAL AWARENESS OF THE DANGER IT POSES TO ELEPHANTS. THE CARVING OF IVORY BY CRAFTSMEN IN JAPAN GOES BACK MORE THAN FOUR HUNDRED YEARS. THESE ARE EXAMPLES OF A CRAFT THAT HAS A INTERESTING PAST, BUT NO FUTURE.
